Mental Health Awareness Month

A mental illness is a condition that affects a person’s thinking, feeling or mood. Such conditions may affect
someone’s ability to relate to others and function each day. Each person will have different experiences, even people with the same diagnosis. Recovery, including meaningful roles in social life, school and work, is possible, especially when you start treatment early and play a strong role in your own recovery process.

During these challenging times, students can still access mental health support.  In addition to contacting school counseling staff, LAUSD has established a mental health hotline at (213) 241-3840 open Monday through Friday from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.  Additional agencies are available 24/7: LA County Department of Mental Health (800) 854-7771 or National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (800) 273-TALK (8255).  If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, please call 9-1-1.
